CANVAS IN ROLLS

ROSA oçers hand-primed canvas rolls for professional artists who prefer to stretch the canvas on a stretcher on their own. ROSA manufactures canvas rolls from natural linen or cotton fabrics only and primes them by hand using special brushes and rollers.

Both fabrics are available in three types of grain. This lets the artist choose the canvas according to the genre of the painting they have in mind – fine grain being perfect for portraits, while large grain being an ideal choice for landscapes. Hand priming and sizing preserves the structure of the canvas, which adds a certain charm and characterto the painting. Each type of canvas is coated with several layers of special sizing, which soaks in the textile fibers, thus strengthening them. The sizing layers fill the spaces between the threads and make a smooth dense surface for priming; it prevents the paint from penetrating to the back side of the canvas.

We use the primers of two types for coating ROSA canvases – the traditional oil emulsion primer and the acrylic one. Oil emulsion primer is a perfect choice for oil painting, as it is of the same nature as the paint; it also positively açects the preservation of the painting over the course of time. Acrylic primer forms a strong, elastic film. A smooth and perfectly white acrylic primer is suitable for both oiland acrylic painting. Mainly we use traditional white primers, but also ROSA has a unique oçer for those who admire tinted surfaces for painting – acrylic-primed canvases ofvarious colours. ROSA Hand Primed Canvas Rolls are available in the following lengths: 3.0m, 10.0m, and widths: 1.5 m, 2.0 m and 2.20m.
